Projects
The renovation and expansion of the hospital were carried out in several phases from 2007 to 2011. Two levels expansions were done on two facades of the building. In addition, major renovations on the existing corresponding levels of the hospital were performed. A new mechanical penthouse was added to the 4th floor roof to install the majority of systems that serve the expansion. A geothermal system including 72 wells serving a Multistack heat pump chiller system. This is also the first hospital in Canada with a geothermal well heating and cooling system. The hospital remained in service for the duration of the work except for some planned interruptions to the emergency ward. Two new operating rooms with associated services and a new laboratory have been constructed in this project.
The main components of the project’s mechanical systems are :
- Several Trane air handling units centralized in a mechanical penthouse and one on the ground floor;
- A Multi-Stack 200 ton heat pump connected to the 72 geothermal wells to produce cooling for the ventilation systems and a portion of the heating;
- A perimeter heating system from Sigma combined with an auxiliary water coil heating system through the ventilation;
- A steam humidification system;
- Steam sterilization systems;
- 7 large heat/energy accumulators made by Steffes;
- Operating rooms with dedicated systems and air handlers;
- Ventilation system for oncology laboratory hoods.
We provided the following services :
- Plumbing;
- Ventilation;
- Heating and cooling;
- Geothermal piping network, wells were drilled by another contractor;
- Building controls (subcontracted);
- Thermal insulation (subcontracted).
